Press Release(s)

At the end of October 2009, the following was published by Greenwood's Index-Journal and GWToday.

East Side Christian Torches are brighter with chess.

East Side Christian School is announcing the formation of a student chess club.  The new chess club will meet every Wednesday after school until 4:30 and is open to all students.  The school club is sponsored by ESCS parent volunteer Glynnis Scurry and local chess player volunteer John Beckett.  Volunteers, donations, and sponsors are always welcome and encouraged.

“Pastor David Thomassan has provided a great facility at East Side Christian”, said Mike Games Scholastic Coordinator SC Chess Association, “and when  Glynnis asked me to help her start a chess club I was glad to help”.  Chess is a learning tool which research has proven enhances creativity, concentration, critical thinking skills, memory, academic achievement, problem solving, cultural enrichment, intellectual maturity, self-esteem, standardized test scores, and a host of other qualities that every parent and teacher desires.  For more information contact Mike Games at 864-389-1180 or MGames@Yahoo.com.
